Bitcoin’s Remarkable Leap Over $51,000, Gaining 20% in a Week

By · February 14, 2024 · 2 min read

On Wednesday, Bitcoin’s value surged past the $51,000 barrier, hitting its peak since December 2021.

CoinGecko reports a 3.8% rise in the last day, summing up to a 20% increase over the week.

The surge pushed Bitcoin’s value over $1 trillion, boosting investor interest and Ether’s value by 16% to $2,754.

João Galhardo from Mynt, BTG Pactual’s crypto arm, attributes this growth to the January 11 launch of Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S.

He highlights a notable drop in outflows from the Grayscale ETF and significant capital inflows into other ETFs.

“Tuesday witnessed inflows reaching $704 million against Grayscale Bitcoin Trust’s outflows of $72.8 million, netting over $631 million, an unprecedented figure,” Galhardo remarks.

Investors are keen to know if Bitcoin’s ascent will persist.

Galhardo cites buying pressure, the upcoming halving, and U.S. monetary expansion as key to Bitcoin’s growth.

The Grayscale ETF’s SEC approval and subsequent outflows caused over $1 billion in losses, affecting Bitcoin’s price.

This necessitated selling Bitcoin equivalents, impacting its price negatively.

Yet, the recent decrease in investor outflows, matched with consistent inflows into other ETFs, has reignited market optimism.

This renewed interest in funds mirrors a growing demand for Bitcoin, aiding its price surge.

Moreover, the market’s upbeat mood coincides with anticipations for Bitcoin’s halving in April.

This event, which halves the mining reward, may boost Bitcoin’s value if demand remains steady or rises, considering the impending supply cut.
