Argentine Navy negotiates with Norway for the acquisition of up to four P-3 Orion aircraft

By · March 2, 2023 · 2 min read

The head of the Argentine Navy, Admiral Julio Guardia, stated that the country is negotiating with Norway to acquire P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft.

Within this framework, a Norwegian delegation is expected to visit Argentina during the second week of March to make progress with the offer.

According to Guardia, during the presentation of the Saab 340B and TC-12B Huron aircraft, the Navy has already analyzed the technical files of the aircraft offered, which it considers to be in excellent condition, with a significant number of flight hours remaining.

Initially, there would be two P-3C aircraft and one P-3N, although a third P-3C unit could be acquired, a model that would be used for maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare.

The P-3N would be deployed for search and rescue (SAR) missions.

Guardia also said that the naval force is analyzing new offers to purchase more Sea King utility helicopters, which would be added to the two Sikorsky S-61T Triton recently acquired from the US company Carson Helicopters for US$12.8 million.
