Argentina: Miguel Pichetto launched his presidential candidacy for 2023
Former Argentine senator Miguel Ángel Pichetto put his name in the electoral race for next year’s Primary, Open, Simultaneous, and Compulsory Elections (PASO), where the confirmed candidates, apart from Pichetto, are Larreta and Manes.
The Auditor General of the Nation and former Senator Miguel Ángel Pichetto formally presented his political party Encuentro Republicano Federal, now with a presence in all the provinces.
It is the right-wing Peronist leg of “Juntos por el Cambio” (Together for Change).
The former vice-presidential candidate held an act in the Buenos Aires gastronomic union to present the referents of his space in the 24 national districts.

As part of the opposition coalition, Pichetto also anticipated that he would seek to be a pre-candidate for president in next year’s PASO.
So far, he has become the third leader of “Juntos por el Cambio” to confirm his intentions to run for president, together with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (PRO) and Facundo Manes (UCR). Mauricio Macri’s candidacy is still unknown.
PICHETTO’S SPEECH TO LAUNCH HIS CAMPAIGN
The auditorium of the trade union led by Dante Camaño was crowded with leaders and activists from several provinces.
Among them were:
- The former deputy and former head of the SIDE, Miguel Angel Toma;
- The former governor of Salta, Juan Carlos Romero;
- The former provisional president Ramón Puerta, the former governor of Neuquén Jorge Sobisch;
- The senator of Buenos Aires and daughter of the trade union leader Claudia Rucci;
- The former vice-chancellor of Menem Andrés Cisneros;
- The former deputy of Córdoba Eduardo Mondino;
- The former deputy Jorge Pirra and the former federal judge Alberto Piotti.
Pichetto laid out the basis of what will be his presidential campaign. “We say that we are part of the “Juntos por el Cambio” table as Encuentro Republicano Federal.
“We have ideas, we have a vision of the country we are going to build, which has nothing to do with the country of “pobrismo” (subsidy policy for the poor), which is not something derogatory with the poor, but it is an ideology that destroys us and sends us to decadence,” he asserted.
As for concrete projects, the president proposed a tax and labor reform that would benefit the working classes that would reactivate formal work and not the culture of social plans.
“We must modernize labor laws and not use old concepts that only harm workers.
“In Argentina, there are only six million formal workers and more than fourteen million among those who receive plans, informal workers, self-employed workers who are outside the labor system,” he pointed out wisely.
One of the pillars of his agenda will be the direct fight against the Mapuche subversion in the country’s south.
“It is enough to look back, it is enough with the history, and I also say it to the comrades of ‘Juntos por el Cambio.’ We are all rights and human, all of us.
“There has been justice and reparation, but there was no justice for the other side. The “montoneros” (Peronist guerrilla organization in Argentina) are going around with the Mapuches, occupying lands in the south”, said Pichetto.
The former senator also plans a total reconstruction of the Armed Forces, considerably increasing their budget and resources. “If we are the government, we will revalue the Armed Forces. It cannot be that a lieutenant in the Army earns the same as a ‘planero’ (person who does not work and receives a subsidy from the state),” he promised.
He paid particular attention to the Argentine Navy, about which he remarked that today, it does not have the resources to defend the economic sovereignty in the Argentine seas, “seriously attacked by factory ships from China that nobody stops”.
And he closed: “The concept of Nation-State has been weakened. It was a mistake of the Constituent Assembly of 1994 to have ceded the natural resources to the ownership of the provinces.
“Thus, we lost the national mining project, the national oil project, and the national gas project. The conduction of the Argentine growth strategy must be in charge of the Nation”.
