AgRural estimates Brazilian soybean production 22/23 at a record 148.5 million tons

Planting of soybeans for the 2022/23 crop in Brazil was 0.1% of the area estimated for the country or 42.7 million hectares the consultancy AgRural announced today (19).

It pointed out that the pace at this time is in line with the percentage identified a year ago.

The initial work is concentrated in Paraná, and in the irrigation areas of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo said consulting analyst Adriano Gomes.

According to him, there is no comparative data with the five-year historical average for this season.

Sowing in Paraná began immediately after the end of the sanitary vacuum on Oct. 10, the analysis company confirmed.

“The first cultivated areas are in the west and southwest of the country and have received seed in the fixed weather intervals of the last week,” AgRural said in a statement Monday.

“Some plots, mostly irrigated, have also been sown in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo, where the sanitary vacuum ended on Jan. 15,” it added.

The sanitary vacuum prohibits the cultivation of soybeans from preventing the spread of rust fungus.

“Some parts of Mato Grosso have had good rains, but most growers are waiting for more moisture to start sowing,” the consultancy says.

AgRural estimates Brazilian soybean production at a record 148.5 million tons, representing an increase of more than 20 million tons compared to 2021/22, when drought affected yields in the country’s south.

In addition to the recovery in productivity, the estimate also includes an increase in planted area to 42.7 million hectares.

AgRural revised the expected acreage upward in late August.

According to the latest projection by the National Supply Company (Conab), Brazil produced 125.55 million tons last season on an estimated 41.45 million hectares.

CORN PLANTING

Summer corn planting for the 2022/23 season reached 22.1% of the area estimated for south-central Brazil on Thursday, up from 17.2% the previous week and 21.5% in the same period last year, according to AgRural data.

Work continues to be concentrated in the three southern states, as is usual at this time of year, and is attracted to Rio Grande do Sul, the consultancy said.

Weather conditions are favorable, and growers’ primary concern at the moment is corn borer control, it added.
