Video Shows Evangelical Singer and Churchgoer Violently Beating up Girlfriend

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A security camera from a condominium in Goiânia recorded the moment when a 33-year-old personal trainer beat his girlfriend. The images show that he punched, kicked and hit her head several times against the ground.

According to the victim’s report to the Civil Police, the victim is a veterinarian and the same age as the aggressor, and she states she was assaulted by Murilo Morais when they went to church. The man is under arrest.

The video shows the woman getting out of a car and going to the condominium. Soon after, the aggressor also leaves the vehicle and goes after her. After being approached, she turns around and walks with her boyfriend to return to the car. Before reaching the car, the woman is punched in the face and falls to the ground.

The images record the sequence of assaults. The woman tries to protect herself the entire time.

Victim tries to escape

The victim told the Specialized Police Station in Attendance to Women (DEAM) that a policeman who appeared at the scene was the one who managed to stop the assault. In the video, you can see that the officer pulls out the gun.

The images also show that the aggressor ran away and was chased by the policeman, who captured him and held him until the arrival of the Military Police. At the police station, witnesses said that the officer had to shoot high in the air so that the man would stop.

The man was arrested and charged with attempted murder and taken to the Deam. During the interrogation, he preferred to remain silent.

Murilo Morais is a city-famous devout evangelical worship singer with his own Youtube channel. But his faith does not seem to prevent him from beating his much weaker girlfriend half to death.

The victim had a cut on her face and body injuries. She was not hospitalized but is undergoing physical therapy.

There was a hearing, where the man was represented by a public defender. Judge Jesseir Coelho de Alcântara decided, at the time, to keep the man in preventive custody. He explained that the man already had made threats and insults and that the gravity of the acts were “evidence of the prisoner’s social risk”.

On Tuesday, September 17th, the Directorate of Penitentiary Administration (DGAP) stated that the suspect remains detained.

Spokesman Cássia Sertão said that the police investigation has already been completed and referred to the Judiciary. The Court of Justice of Goiás was asked the status of the process. However, according to the agency’s advice, the initial information is that the case is under judicial seal.
