The world’s longest snack is from São Paulo with more than 350 meters

The world’s longest snack is Brazilian, acknowledged by Guinness World Records, which publishes the Book of Records.

The sandwich – assembled to celebrate São Paulo’s anniversary on January 25 – had its length certified at about 354 meters by Guinness evaluators.

Known internationally as “torpedo” or “submarine”, the record holder was a row of several smaller sandwiches measuring 30 centimeters long.

Producing the mega snack took 1,180 “sandwiches” filled with bologna and cheese.

The job was done by Perdigão employees, who used the company’s cold cuts.

A team of more than 40 people was involved for more than five hours in preparing the snacks in the kitchen, which were finally assembled at the Biennial of Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo.

The endeavor was part of the celebrations of the second “Mortandela Week: With N for Niver Sampa”, an event that also celebrated the 469th anniversary of the city between January 22 and 31.

“For São Paulo’s birthday, we wanted to offer a gift that reflected the greatness and history of one of the largest metropolises in the world. As gastronomy is one of the city’s greatest cultural treasures and Mortadela Ouro Perdigão is an icon, we thought big.”

“We created the largest sandwich in the world, winning the prestigious Guinness World Records title. It is how we celebrate the city with style and make history,” celebrated Marcel Sacco, Perdigão’s Global Vice President of Marketing and New Business, to Guinness.

At Ibirapuera, visitors could learn more about how smoked bologna is made and see up close the largest snack in the world.

After Guinness judge Carlos Tapia measured the sandwich to confirm the record, it was almost completely served to the local public.

The rest – around 20% of the sandwich – was donated to the project Pãozinho Solidário (Solidarity bread), which delivers food to people in need.
