Shakira diss track breaks YouTube record in Latin America

A song by Colombian pop singer-songwriter Shakira about her ex-partner Gerard Piqué has broken YouTube records.

The video for “Out of Your League” was viewed more than 63 million times in 24 hours, making it the most viewed Latino song of that period.

Shakira, 45, split from former Barcelona footballer Piqué (35) in 2022 after more than 10 years together. The couple also have two children together.

This four-minute pop song marks the first time Shakira and Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap have collaborated.

Shakira joins a long list of YouTube record-breaking Latin artists including J Balvin, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

It’s not her first song about the breakup – Monotonia came out three months ago, but it was more of a lovesick song than one about revenge.

In the diss track, Shakira sings about Piqué’s new partner, who is said to be 23 years old.

She says she’s “worth two 22-year-olds” and likens the relationship to swapping “a Ferrari for a [Renault] Twingo” and a “Rolex for a Casio”.

The Colombian singer also refers to her dispute with the Spanish authorities, who claim that she has not paid €14.5 million in income tax.
