New Year’s Eve in Copacabana will have drone patrols, checkpoints and police towers on the waterfront

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall is finishing preparations for New Year’s Eve 2023. 

This will be the year of full resumption of the traditional celebration and in addition to the traditional Copacabana stages, nine other attractions will be spread across the capital. 

On the main beach in Rio, two stages will host shows. The first will be in front of the Copacabana Palace and will have concerts by Zeca Pagodinho, Iza and Alexandre Pires, in addition to the drums of Grande Rio samba group. The second will have names like Mart’nália, Bala Quero, Gilsons, Preta Gil and Beija-Flor’s drums. 

In all, there should be 12 minutes of fireworks on the Copacabana waterfront, with 10 ferries being used at the time. The expectation is that 100% of the hotel network in the city will be occupied. 

To ensure the safety of the public, the Secretariat of Public Order will have eight scattered support bases and five operational tents. In addition, more than 1,500 agents were mobilized and patrols on the beachfront were confirmed. 

Copacabana will have four Military Police (PM) towers. To get to the shore, it will be necessary to go through mandatory inspections at the accesses to the beach. Finally, the authorities will also have the support of drones and helicopters to monitor the event.
