Peru aims to improve the battle management system of its submarines
The Peruvian Navy (MGP) has set itself the task of improving the capabilities of the battle management system of its 209/1200 submarines.
Therefore, it has launched the so-called Quipu project, which aims to develop new tracking motion analysis (TMA) algorithms used to determine the range, heading, and contact speed parameters.
The term Quipu refers to a system for storing information using a series of knots, wool, or cotton threads in different colors, which was used by the Incas and other cultures in ancient Peru.

THE BAP ANGAMOS
The first submarine on which the Quipu project will be implemented is the BAP Angamos (named after the four MGP 209/1200 series submarines), whose battle management system integrates sonar, weapons control, and manual plotting, among other capabilities, but does not have automatic plotting capability, which limits the ship’s ability to engage multiple targets.
To execute the Quipu project, the Navy requires the services of a contractor (legal or natural person) to develop algorithms and TMA software to automate multi-contact plotting,.
It will be formally integrated into the 209/1200 submarines’ combat management system upon completion of the appropriate laboratory and sea trials.
The capability to automatically record eight contacts after sonar acquisition is currently being pursued.
The algorithms and software to be developed should leave room for future upgrades or integration of new features or applications.
