Lula da Silva has 52% and Bolsonaro 48% in the runoff – PoderData

In a second-round simulation, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party – PT, left) has 52% of the valid votes.

President Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL, right), 48% (excluding blank and null votes), according to a new PoderData research, from the Poder360 website, released on Thursday, October 6.

The margin of error is 1.8 points.

By this result in voting intentions, the two would be close to a technical tie, but not quite in that condition yet, with an advantage for da Silva, says PoderData.

The survey is the first conducted by the institution after the first round of voting on October 2.

Blank, null, and undecided votes add up to 8%.

In the PoderData survey, total votes, including blank and null votes:

• Lula da Silva has 48%;
• Bolsonaro has 44%;
• Blank and null are 6%;
• Undecided, 2%.

The survey was conducted from October 3 to 5, with 3,500 people in 301 cities and 27 states, through calls to cell phones and landlines.

IPEC RESEARCH

On Wednesday night, the first round of the Ipec poll, commissioned by TV Globo, was also released.

Considering valid votes, it was 55% for Lula da Silva and 45% for Bolsonaro. The margin of error for the Ipec poll is two percentage points higher or lower.

In total votes, Lula da Silva has 51% and Bolsonaro 43%. 2% are undecided, and 4% are blank and null.

WHEN WILL THE RUNOFF ELECTIONS BE HELD?

When neither candidate reaches 50% plus one of the valid votes for the presidential office, the election goes to a second round (runoff elections).

In 2022, the runoff will be on October 30. Unlike other years, for this election, the time zone for voting is the same throughout the country, that of Brasilia, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

CAN ANYONE WHO DID NOT VOTE IN THE FIRST ROUND VOTE IN THE RUNOFF?

Voters who did not vote in the first round of the 2022 elections can and should vote in the runoff.

According to the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE), the Electoral Justice treats each round as an independent election.

It means that a person who did not vote in the first round is not prohibited from going to the polls in the runoff.

WHICH OFFICES WILL BE VOTED FOR IN THE RUNOFF ELECTIONS IN 2022?

The runoff is only for governors and the president if no candidate reaches 50% plus one of the valid votes. For states without a runoff for governor, the voting will be only for the president.

In the 2022 elections, twelve states will have governor runoff elections: São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, Alagoas, Amazonas, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Santa Catarina, and Rondônia.
