Prediction Markets: Football

Key Facts

—Prediction markets. Kalshi, a US exchange regulated by the CFTC, prices Cruz Azul at 49% to win at Pumas UNAM on Sunday 11 October, 21:00 ET (Pumas 27%, draw 26%). Prices read at 5:34 am ET on Friday 9 October 2026.

—Argentina. Lanús is 45% and Vélez Sarsfield 27% on Kalshi for Monday 12 October, 15:00 ET (16:00 in Buenos Aires). No price has been posted for a draw.

—Liga MX title. Kalshi gives Toluca 27%, Guadalajara 20%, América 16% and Cruz Azul 11% to win the Apertura, on 805,773 contracts traded. Polymarket has Toluca at 23.5%.

—Brazil. Polymarket prices Flamengo at 64% and Palmeiras at 36% to win the Série A, with US$46,864 traded. Flamengo host Fluminense on Sunday 11 October, 16:30 ET.

—Libertadores. Flamengo are 43% on Polymarket and 44% on Kalshi to win the Copa Libertadores. The semi-finals start on Wednesday 14 October at 20:30 ET.

Prediction markets make Cruz Azul the favourite, at 49%, to win at Pumas UNAM in Mexico City on Sunday 11 October (21:00 ET). It is a rematch of May’s Clausura final, which Cruz Azul won, and it opens a weekend in which real-money traders also price Brazil’s title race, next week’s Copa Libertadores semi-finals and Africa’s qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

For readers in the United States, the prices are a live read on how traders rate Mexican, Brazilian and Argentine clubs. One of the two exchanges, Kalshi, is regulated in the US by the CFTC.

What Prediction Markets Say

A price of 49% means a contract that pays US$1 if Cruz Azul win costs about 49 US cents. Prices are bets by traders, not forecasts by The Rio Times, and they can move quickly.

Kalshi volume is counted in contracts, each worth up to US$1. Polymarket volume is in US dollars, and match prices can add up to slightly more than 100% because each outcome is quoted separately.

Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.

This Weekend’s Matches

Pumas UNAM vs Cruz Azul: Cruz Azul 49%, Pumas 27%, draw 26%

Sunday 11 October, 19:00 in Mexico City (21:00 ET), Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Liga MX Apertura, matchday 11. Kalshi shows 12,765 contracts traded on the game.

Cruz Azul beat Pumas 2–1 on aggregate in the Clausura final in May, after a 0–0 first leg and a 2–1 win at this ground. On 26 September they drew 3–3 with Toluca.

Pumas lost 3–2 at home to Atlético de San Luis on 27 September. The market still gives the hosts a 27% chance, almost level with the 26% it puts on a draw.

Lanús vs Vélez Sarsfield: Lanús 45%, Vélez 27%

Monday 12 October, 16:00 in Buenos Aires (15:00 ET), Estadio Ciudad de Lanús, Argentina’s Liga Profesional, Clausura tournament. Kalshi shows 11,687 contracts traded, but no price has been posted for a draw.

Vélez have 21 points from 11 games and Lanús 17, according to Fox Sports.

The market backs the home side even though Vélez are four points higher. Vélez drew 2–2 at Platense on 5 October.

Our earlier coverage of the league is in Argentine League Final 2026 in La Plata.

Also this weekend: Brazil and Liga MX matchday 11

Brazil’s Série A plays round 30 from 10 to 12 October. Flamengo host Fluminense on Sunday at 17:30 in Rio (16:30 ET), and Palmeiras host Corinthians at the same time in São Paulo.

Liga MX matchday 11 runs from 9 to 11 October, with Tigres vs Toluca on Friday 9 October and América vs Monterrey on Saturday 10 October. None of these games had a match market in our feed of qualifying markets this morning.

Latin America Title Races

Brazil: Flamengo 64%, Palmeiras 36%

Flamengo lead the Série A with 61 points from 29 games after a 2–2 draw with Santos on Thursday, in which Neymar scored twice from penalties for Santos. Palmeiras beat Bahia 1–0 and are one point behind on 60.

Polymarket’s Série A winner market has US$46,864 traded. This is the first edition of this weekly preview, so there is no week-on-week change yet, and from next Friday we will show it.

Copa Libertadores: Flamengo 43% to 44%

Three Brazilian clubs and one Argentine club are left. Fluminense host Palmeiras on Wednesday 14 October at 21:30 in Brasília (20:30 ET), and Estudiantes de La Plata face Flamengo on Thursday 15 October at the same time.

The return legs are on 21 and 22 October, and the final is on 28 November at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Polymarket puts Flamengo at 43%, Palmeiras at 26.5% and Estudiantes at 12.5%, with US$33,076 traded. Kalshi has Flamengo at 44%, Fluminense at 31%, Estudiantes at 30% and Palmeiras at 20%, on 7,247 contracts.

Mexico: Toluca 27% on Kalshi, 23.5% on Polymarket

Toluca and América both have 20 points after matchday 10, with Toluca ahead on tie-breaks. América still has a postponed game against Tijuana in hand, due in late October.

Kalshi’s Apertura champion market, with 805,773 contracts, shows Toluca at 27%, Guadalajara at 20%, América at 16% and Cruz Azul at 11%. Polymarket, with US$101,358 traded, has Toluca at 23.5%, América and Guadalajara at 16.5% and Cruz Azul at 14.5%.

Polymarket also prices the runner-up spot: América 21.5%, Guadalajara 17.5%, Toluca 16.2% and Cruz Azul 10.5%. Its 2026–27 top-scorer market has Juninho at 12.5%, Paulinho at 11.2% and Juan Brunetta at 10%.

Relegation: Colombia and Peru

In Colombia’s Primera A, Polymarket gives Boyacá Chicó 79.5% and Jaguares 66.5% of going down in 2026, on US$19,567 traded. In Peru’s Liga 1, UTC Cajamarca are 85%, ADT 54.5% and Deportivo Moquegua 52.5%, on US$15,319.

More than one club is relegated in each league, so those prices do not add up to 100%. Both markets are thin, so single trades can move them.

Africa

The Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 is co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The opening match is on Saturday 19 June 2027 and the final on Saturday 17 July 2027, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

No qualifiers are played this weekend. The next window for matchdays three and four runs from 9 to 17 November.

Polymarket’s tournament winner market has US$14,021 traded. Morocco lead at 33.5%, ahead of Senegal at 14.3%, Ivory Coast at 10%, Egypt at 7.4%, South Africa at 7% and Nigeria at 5.9%.

In qualifying Group D, South Africa are 72.5% to finish first and Guinea 25%. South Africa have six points after beating Eritrea 5–0, Guinea have three, and Kenya and Eritrea one each.

In Group F, Burkina Faso are 60% and Benin 34.4%, with Mauritania at 5.2%. Burkina Faso and Benin have four points each and Mauritania three.

Our regular odds pages for both regions are in the Latin America odds hub and the Africa odds hub, and today’s results and fixtures are in the Latin America Sports Daily.

What It Means for US Readers

Kalshi is a US-regulated exchange, so these prices show how American traders value clubs that many US fans follow, especially Mexican ones. The 2026 World Cup was played in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and Liga MX and Major League Soccer clubs also meet every summer in the Leagues Cup.

Treat the numbers as a snapshot. A 49% price for Cruz Azul still means they fail to win more often than not.

What Is Not Known

Line-ups and injury lists for Sunday’s and Monday’s games are not yet public. Weather and late kickoff changes can also move the prices before the whistle.

Kickoff times come from club and press schedules and can change. Some sources list the Lanús game on 11 October, while Promiedos and Kalshi’s own contract date it 12 October.

Many season markets have only a few thousand dollars traded, so their prices are rough guides. We will refresh them next Friday.
