Green Gold: Peru’s Soaring Agricultural Exports

From January to April 2024, Peru experienced a significant rise in agricultural exports, reaching $3.027 billion.

This marks an 8.1% increase from the previous year. The growth showcases a robust agricultural sector, with notable surges in several products.

Coffee exports, for example, soared by 65%, while blueberries almost doubled with a 110% increase.

Elizabeth Galdo, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, highlighted these results.

She sees them as pivotal for Peru’s ambition to become the world’s eighth-largest fruit exporter this year.

The 2023 performance set a precedent, with exports like blueberries and grapes hitting markets worth $1.701 billion and $1.773 billion, respectively.

The broader economic picture also reflects growth, showing a 2% increase in total foreign trade, which amounted to $36.683 billion for the quarter.

This growth includes a 6.5% increase in trade with Asian countries. Additionally, gold sales saw a substantial rise of 55.4%, making up 15% of Peru’s total export value.
