“The cancellations of public New Year’s Eve parties cause an inverse demand, taking [tourists] out of the public place and taking them to private and more reserved places,” said Sérgio Souza, president of Resorts Brasil.

According to Souza, there are establishments full for the end of the year. “Today, we have an average occupancy in Brazil between 60% and 70%,” he said, pondering that there are still challenges to be overcome.

Manoel Linhares, president of the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry (Abih Nacional), said that the recovery continues and the enterprises are advancing in the preparations for the New Year’s festivities with a focus on private parties.

He believes the high dollar has contributed to local tourism as it has made it more expensive to travel abroad than to remain in Brazil.
