Closed for ten years: what happened to the toys at São Paulo’s Playcenter?
Playcenter, the old amusement park in Barra Funda, São Paulo, was closed a few years ago and gave way to commercial and residential buildings.
But what happened to the park’s attractions?
Some of them have found a new home at Animália Park, a theme park located in Cotia, in São Paulo’s countryside.
Among the attractions that will be transferred are Splash and the Viking Boat, which promise to bring the excitement of Playcenter to the new park.
The Colossus roller coaster had an international destination and was sold to Dorney Park in the United States.
In 2008 it was transferred to a touring park in Germany, where it continues to operate today.
Super Jet, in turn, left Playcenter in 1996 when it was sold to Millennium Park.
In 2012, it was transferred to Parque Mutirama in Goiás, where it still operates.
The Ferris wheel Giranda Mundi, one of the main attractions of Hopi Hari, was part of Playcenter until 1997 and can currently be found at Hopi Hari itself, with its 44-meter height.
In 2012, Diario do Grande ABC reported that two attractions of the São Paulo park went to Parque da Criança, in São Bernardo do Campo: the Frog Hopper, a kind of elevator, and a fire truck that simulates a Ferris wheel, the Fire Chief.
Although Playcenter has closed its doors, the attractions that made the joy of so many people for years continue to operate in new locations, maintaining the tradition of amusement parks.
