Chile’s IPSA Holds Steady Amid Copper Strength and Global Caution
Chile’s main stock market index, IPSA, finished nearly flat at 8,141.82 CLP by the close on July 24, 2025. Despite strong copper exports reported by Riotimes Online and moderate economic growth projections of 2.5% this year, investors remained cautious.
Copper exports remained resilient even after the U.S. introduced new tariffs. These robust exports supported investor confidence. However, global market uncertainty overshadowed local optimism.
Trading was narrow, ranging between 8,136.72 and 8,191.52 CLP, reflecting investor indecision. Market activity showed average volumes, signaling limited conviction among traders. ETF flows tied to Chilean assets were also neutral.
Top performers on the IPSA included Inversiones La Construcción (+5.4%), Naturgy Chile (+4.0%), and Oro Blanco (+3.7%). Strong institutional buying and rotation toward defensive sectors drove these gains.
Leading declines were SMU (-0.82%), Colbún (-0.41%), and Enel Américas (-0.27%). These companies faced weak sales or regulatory pressures, dampening investor interest.

Technical analysis on daily charts showed the IPSA trading close to its 20- and 50-day moving averages, confirming market hesitation. RSI stood at 44.67, signaling neutral momentum without clear buy or sell signals.
MACD remained negative, indicating mild downward pressure without extreme bearishness. Four-hour charts revealed consolidation slightly below major moving averages, with MACD and RSI confirming a stable but cautious sentiment.
The Global Liquidity Index NDQ, tracked by a yellow line, indicated stable liquidity conditions without notable inflows. Bollinger Bands demonstrated low volatility, with prices tightly grouped around the central average line.
Investors awaited a catalyst to trigger a more decisive move. Regionally, Latin American markets were mixed. Brazil’s Ibovespa dipped slightly, and Mexico’s IPC showed modest losses.
Conversely, U.S. equities moderately advanced, suggesting global markets were cautiously optimistic but lacked strong conviction. The weekly perspective indicated a continuing upward trend, reinforcing a positive medium-term outlook.
Yet, the current lack of significant volume or clear direction highlights ongoing market uncertainty. Investors remain watchful for shifts in global liquidity or copper market dynamics.
Any significant movement in these areas could quickly influence Chilean equities, breaking the current stalemate.
