RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he would meet with ambassadors staying in Brazil to discuss the “weaknesses of our electoral system” and refute the somewhat flippant statements of the President of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Justice  Edson Fachin, and Justice of the Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, about the possibility of a “coup d’état” by him and his allies.

In a message sent in WhatsApp groups, Bolsonaro said the meeting was scheduled after Fachin invited foreign diplomats to Brasilia to seek “serious and true information” about the technology used in the election. The meeting date between the President and the ambassadors is not mentioned.

According to Fachin, the international community must be “vigilant” against “frivolous accusations” against the Brazilian electoral system. The magistrate’s statement came during a briefing for embassies.

At the time, the TSE president stated that the electronic voting system was “fully verifiable” and that there were several control bodies, such as the PF (Federal Police), the MPF (Federal Ministry), and the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association).

“We regret the attitude of the president of the TSE, which clearly shows that he is not committed to electoral transparency,” Bolsonaro said in a WhatsApp group.

Given the judge’s provocative behavior, the President criticized the election judge and questioned the security of the electoral process.

Fachin, on the other hand, fears that Brazil will face a situation even more difficult than the invasion of the Capitol that took place in the United States on January 6, 2021, without providing any evidence of this.

“What has been said in Brazil is the occurrence of an even more serious episode than January 6 here [in the United States] in the Capitol,” he said Thursday (7) at a lecture in the United States.
