Brazil will seek international cooperation if invasions in Brasilia are found to have foreign involvement

Brazil will seek international cooperation if investigations into last Sunday’s invasions in the Three Powers buildings in Brasilia point to the participation of people abroad, official sources informed yesterday.

In an interview with CNN Brazil television, the Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, said that if it is detected that there were people abroad who participated in the financing or incitement to the vandalism acts that ended with the invasion and depredation of the Congress, the Presidency Palace and the Supreme Court, police and judicial cooperation with the countries involved will be requested.

“The administrative direction I gave to the Federal Police was to investigate the whole chain of principals. And if this chain of principals obviously involves people in other countries, police and judicial cooperation will be sought,” said Dino.

However, Congressman Alexandre Freitas said on his Twitter account that Lula doesn’t want a CPI to investigate the depredation of the Three Powers buildings.

“With strong indications that the vandals were paid to start the smashing and with investigations focusing only on the buses that took the mostly peaceful protesters. Seems convenient, doesn’t it?”

The minister also said that he intends to present, in the next 10 days, a package of measures to prevent cases such as the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, which includes changes in the management of public security in the Federal District.

According to the Brazilian press, lawmakers from the United States and Brazil are looking for ways to cooperate in investigating the attacks in Brasília by Brazilian Spring protesters, sharing lessons from investigations into the invasion of the U.S. Capitol in 2021.

Commenting on the news about the draft decree found in the house of former Justice Minister Anderson Torres to reverse the electoral result, in which Jair Bolsonaro lost to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dino said he would arrest anyone carrying the document, instead of keeping it in his own residence.
