Brazil elections 2022: Lula da Silva has half of Bolsonaro’s vote among evangelicals -poll
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would win the 2022 presidential election on the first ballot if the dispute were only among evangelicals.
The current conservative president has more than double (52%) the electoral intentions of leftist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the segment (25%), shows a PoderData poll conducted May 8-10, 2022. In the round 15 days earlier, the percentages were 52% and 30%, respectively.
Among Catholics, the leftist candidate reverses the scenario and is ahead. He has 47% versus 30% for Bolsonaro. The picture is stable compared to two weeks ago (when it was 45% X 33%).
On average, among the population as a whole, Lula receives 42% compared to 35% for the current president. The difference between the two is 7 percentage points.
Former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT) and former São Paulo governor João Doria (PSDB) have the third-largest lead among religious segments, both reaching 5% among Catholics and 2% in the evangelical group. Other names have not reached this level.

The poll was conducted by PoderData, a company of the Poder360 Jornalismo group, with its own resources. Data were collected between May 8 and 10, 2022, through calls to cell phones and landlines. 3,000 interviews were conducted in 288 cities in the 27 states of the Federation. The margin of error is 2 percentage points. The confidence interval is 95%.
