Best Rare Mobs to Farm For Gold in WoW The War Within
(Sponsored) Season 2 of The War Within has just dropped, which means it’s time to step up your gold-farming game so you can enjoy all the new content without annoying limitations.
If your usual gold-making methods aren’t bringing in enough profit and you’re looking for ways to boost your income, this guide is for you. Here, we’ll cover the best Rare Elite farms where you can loot high-end items and sell them for tons of WoW gold.
What Rare Elites to Farm to Make Tons of Gold
Before we dive in, let’s clarify a few things first. The farms we’re about to cover work best in an alt camp setup—this means parking your alts in specific locations and logging in once or twice a day to kill the Rare, loot it, and log out.
Also, keep in mind that the drop rates for high-ticket items aren’t great and it’s all pure RNG. So, if you’re looking for a steady gold income, don’t rely solely on these farms.
Instead, use them as a side hustle alongside more consistent gold-making methods like crafting, gathering, or farming BoEs.
Lastly, the prices we mention here are just estimates based on current market trends. Before committing to a farm—or especially before listing an item—always check your Auction House rates.
This will help you avoid wasting time on outdated farms and ensure you’re pricing your loot correctly.
And with all that out of the way, let’s dive into those Rare farms!
Mith’rethis the Enchanter
To farm this Rare, you’ll need to camp out in The Hinterlands, specifically in the northern part of Jintha’Alor.
Mith’rethis the Enchanter has a 1.4% drop rate for Chan’s Imperial Robes, which is quite high for a rare BoE item. This chest piece is in high demand and sells quickly at the Auction House, often going for 20,000 gold or more, depending on your realm’s economy.
Besides this item, the mob also drops a decent number of green BoEs, which can bring in some extra gold. Overall, this is a great farm, so if you have multiple alts, we highly recommend parking several of them here to maximize your chances of getting valuable drops.
Snarlmane
This rare undead mob is waiting for you in the basement of the castle on Fenris Isle in Silverpine Forest.
Loot-wise, we have a bunch of interesting drops, but your main target should be the Flesh Carver axe. This weapon sells extremely well at the Auction House since weapons generally move faster than other gear.
The profit margin is impressive—70,000 to 100,000 gold on average, but on certain realms, it can even go for several hundred thousand gold.
Snarlmane also drops various armor pieces, including Bandit Jerkin, Greenweave Robe, Defender Boots, Fortified Belt, and more. Each of these pieces can sell for a few hundred to 1,000 gold, providing a nice extra income while farming the main item.
Omgorn the Lost
This mob hangs around in Tanaris and spawns all over Dunemaul Compound. The item you’ll be after is Changuk Smasher. It’s a one-handed mace with a pretty low drop chance of just 0.5%, but if you’re lucky to get it, you can sell it for an average of 50,000 gold, sometimes up to 100,000, and on certain realms, we’ve seen it go for even higher prices.
Krkk’kx
This guy with a hard-to-pronounce name spawns in Thousand Needles, northwest of Fizzle and Pozzik’s Speedbarge. You can loot a bunch of green BoEs from him, each selling for up to 1,000 gold, but the real prize here is the Silithid Ripper—a one-handed sword that can easily get you anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 gold at the Auction House.
Lady Vespira
Lady Vespira can be found in Darkshore, northeast of the Ruins of Auberdine. There’s a small catch, though—before you can face her, you’ll need to talk to an NPC named Zidormi to phase back to the older version of Darkshore. Zidormi will be marked on your map with a speech bubble icon.
Once you’ve done this little time-travel trick and switched to the alternate version of Darkshore, you can farm Lady Vespira for the Imbued Simple Cape, Spikelash Dagger, and Black Pearl Ring.
The weapon should definitely be your priority since it sells faster and for a higher price—you’re looking at around 100,000-150,000 gold on average. The other items go for a bit less, but as always, prices vary depending on the realm.
Pridewing Patriarch
Pridewing Patriarch is our last but definitely not least Rare Elite for today, and you can find him near Mirkfallon Lake in Stonetalon Mountains. Here, you’ll need to put in a bit more effort compared to other farms.
That’s because before this mob spawns, you’ll have to kill a certain number of other creatures that roam nearby and look almost identical to him. We’re talking about Pridewing Wyvern, Pridewing Consort, or basically any wyvern-like creature you see.
Once you rack up enough kills, Pridewing Patriarch will spawn, and you’ll have a chance to loot the Webwing Cloak and Wyvern Tailspike.
The cloak can sell for around 40,000-50,000 gold, but the real jackpot is the dagger—it can go for about 200,000 gold, sometimes even reaching half a million depending on the realm.
The best part about this farm is that if you keep killing wyverns, Pridewing Patriarch will keep respawning, meaning you can farm him over and over again—as long as you don’t get tired or run out of mobs.
It’s not an AFK farm in the usual sense; you’ll have to put in some work, but if you get lucky, the rewards will definitely be worth it.
