RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Companhia das Docas do Estado da Bahia (Codeba) recorded a percentage growth of 15.92% in cargo throughput compared to 2020, the second-highest among Brazilian port companies.

The first place was occupied by Companhia das Docas do Espírito Santo (Codesa), with an increase of 18.27%.

“The position we have gained in the national ranking of the performance of public ports is the result of a stable growth trend in movements that have continued for 15 months,” said Carlos Autran Amaral, general manager of Codesba.

In the list, Codeba outperformed Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro – CDRJ (14.35%), Companhia Docas Do Rio Grande do Norte – CODERN (7.32%), Port of Santos (-1.01%), Companhia Docas do Ceará – CDC (-2.21%) and Companhia Docas do Pará – CDP (-8.87%).

“Even in difficult times, Brazilian ports have shown resilience and surprise. Today we see that what was a logistical bottleneck has become a solution, and this is the result of technical and efficient management that has led port companies with excellence. Codeba is an example of this, and the exponential increase in traffic shows that this work has produced good results,” said the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.

In 2021, the Port of Salvador handled 5,665,376 tons, an increase of 9% over 2020, while Aratu-Candeias and Ilhéus handled 7.3 million (+20.32%) and 464 thousand (+44.24%), respectively.

Among the cargoes handled, soybeans and nickel (Port of Ilhéus), oil, fuel, fertilizer, and copper concentrate (Port of Aratu-Candeias), and cellulose, project cargo, and containerized cargo (Port of Salvador) stood out.
