Agribusiness: Brazil opens markets for beef, dairy products, and genetic material

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil will export beef, dairy products, poultry, and beef genetic material to new countries. According to information from the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, eight markets for Brazilian agricultural products were opened in December.

The most recent was the possibility to export bovine fibroblasts for cloning purposes from Brazil to Argentina, which was formalized last Thursday (30) with the acceptance of phytosanitary protocols by both countries.

Still, at the end of December, Cuba allowed the entry of bovine embryos and semen from Brazil. Malaysia allowed the importation of Brazilian beef and bovine offal from the country.

Brazil obtained approval to export meat and bone meal and bovine tallow for Colombia. Mexico authorized the commercialization of Brazilian dairy products and Uganda of Brazilian poultry genetic material.

In 2021, the folder totaled 77 actions to open markets, which means the possibility to commercialize one new product per trade partner. Uganda and Jordan markets were opened to Brazil’s poultry genetic material in November.

In October, 12 opening trade actions were reported, ten of them involving exporting seeds to Egypt.

In September, eight other markets were opened for Brazilian products, including live cattle, fertile eggs, day-old chicks, poultry and bovine genetic material, animal origin flour, animal feed products, and ginger. In August, the openings involved fish, seeds, and genetic material.

New markets were opened for melon seeds, Arabica coffee, and coconut from Brazil in July. In May, the permits involved apples and sesame. In June, the highlight was the release of beef and bovine genetic material to Yemen.

In April, the openings involved live cattle, fertile eggs, and coconut seedlings. In March, the country obtained permission to export raw eggs, animal genetic material, fruits, and animal feed items to new countries.

In February, the highlight was the opening for the animal protein sector with permission to export live cattle, bovine genetic material, and pork and derivatives to Cambodia. And in January, the highlights were permission to export sheepmeat and bovine offal.
