According to new study on mRNA vaccines, harm-benefit ratio is negative

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – When drugs are used, the principle is that the benefits must be more significant than the harms from adverse side effects.

In the case of the experimental mRNA Covid vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer, a large number of reported (sometimes very serious) side effects should only be accepted if they provide as much protection against hospitalization and death from Covid-19 as is readily claimed.

But a recently published study suggests that this is not the case. This study also features high-profile authorship from the United States (including Robert M. Kaplan of Stanford University’s School of Medicine), which certainly adds to the weight of this paper. The introduction also states:

Pfizer and Moderna mRNA-COVID-19 vaccines were associated with an increased risk of serious adverse events of particular interest, with absolute risk increases of 10.1 and 15.1 per 10,000 vaccinees, respectively, compared with baseline placebo values of 17.6 and 42.2 (95% CI -0.4 to 20.6 and -3.6 to 33.8, respectively).

Taken together, the mRNA vaccines were associated with an absolute increase in the risk of serious adverse events of particular interest of 12.5 per 10,000 (95% CI 2.1 to 22.9). The increased risk of serious adverse events of specific interest exceeded the risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization compared with the placebo group in both the Pfizer and Moderna trials (2.3 and 6.4 per 10,000 participants, respectively).

And as you can see from the tables below (more detailed tables can be found at the end of the study itself), the data is indeed startling:

In the “harm-benefit considerations,” it says: “In the Moderna trial, the excess risk of severe Adverse Events of Special Interests (AESIs) (15.1 per 10,000 participants) exceeded the risk reduction for Covid-19 hospitalizations compared with the placebo group (6.4 per 10,000 participants).”

“In the Pfizer trial, the excess risk of severe AESIs (10.1 per 10,000) exceeded the risk reduction for Covid-19 hospitalizations compared with the placebo group (2.3 per 10,000 participants).”

In other words, both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines cause significantly more severe adverse events than they prevent severe Covid events.
