Venezuelan vice-president demands Chile respect the physical integrity of its migrants

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez demanded on Sunday (26) that the Chilean authorities respect the physical integrity of Venezuelan migrants in their territory.

“Venezuela repudiates xenophobia and aggressions against Venezuelan migrants and demands that the national and local authorities of Chile respect the physical and psychological integrity of our fellow citizens,” she published on her social networks.

In addition, Rodríguez reported that Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro had ordered the activation of the “Return to the Homeland” plan to guarantee the return of those fellow citizens in Chilean territory who wish to do so, according to the local newspaper ‘Última Hora’.

The vice-president’s reaction was due to the pictures of the march this Saturday in Iquique, where a group of demonstrators protested against immigration, which ended with the burning of foreign citizens’ belongings.
