Russia studies the possibility of importing fish and shellfish from Venezuela

The Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) of Russia is studying the possibility of importing fish and shellfish from Venezuela, coordinating it with veterinary agencies of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the Russian entity reported on its website.

“On October 26, Rosseljoznadzor held negotiations in videoconference format with competent organizations in Venezuela (…), after which he reported that he is studying the possibility of importing fish and shellfish from Venezuela, coordinating it with veterinary organizations of the UEE,” says the note.

The Russian and Venezuelan sides discussed the issues of access to products subject to sanitary and veterinary control, agreeing to accelerate the procedures that allow intensifying bilateral trade.

The statement states that Russia is interested in exporting meat and dairy products to Venezuela, while Venezuelan producers want to supply the Russian market with fish, shellfish and beef.

The Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for Agriculture said it was prepared to send its inspectors to Russian meat-producing companies in the fourth quarter of the current year and specified the requirements that such a product must meet to be supplied without the need to organize the audit of the producing companies.

Rosselkhoznadzor, for his part, pointed out that Russia’s status as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease and bovine spongiform encephalopathy imposes certain limitations on the possibility of importing meat. But if you meet certain requirements, you can organize the importation of products that do not pose a risk of infection. That means organizing by Rosselkhoznadzor inspections of the supply companies.

The Eurasian Economic Union groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
