Rio Writer MixUp Returns on January 23rd: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Rio Times, in conjunction with the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents (Associação de Correspondentes da Imprensa Estrangeira, also known as ACIE) will soon be holding the summer edition of the Rio Writer MixUp, a chance for fellow journalists, authors, screenwriters, bloggers, publishers and film producers to come together, network and talk about their work.

The event will take place at the Gringo Café in Ipanema, on Thursday, January 23rd, from 7PM until 11PM. Stone Korshak, editor and publisher of The Rio Times explains, “Last time was great, we had a focus on authors, this time we are focusing more on journalism in our partnership with ACIE, but it’s really for anyone who is writing -or wanting to write – anything.”

Amit Kumar, a British national who works for Ipanema Wealth, a financial and corporate consultancy group in Rio, also plans to attend. He attended the last Rio MixUp because, in his own words, “I enjoy talking to creative writers and journalists in a relaxed venue. Also, it’s a good opportunity to network with like-minded people and catch-up with friends.”

Julia Michaels, author of the book, “Solteira no Rio de Janeiro,” (“Single in Rio de Janeiro”) was a special guest at the last event, and says that she “… enjoyed the great food and drinks of my friend Sam Gringo’s Café. The atmosphere is so relaxed and you feel like you can talk to anyone, about anything. There are all kinds of artsy people there, even film folk. I definitely have this one on my calendar.”

Jan Roldanus, from the film production company GreenGo Films, will be making an appearance at the event. GreenGo Films produced the feature film “Eden,” which won Best Actress at the 2012 Rio International Film Festival.

The ACIE was established in 1979, but was formerly named the Club of Foreign Press Correspondents. Their membership includes more than one hundred professional radio, newspaper, television and website operating in Brazil, as well as associate members of the diplomatic sector, press officers and heads of public relations international organizations.

The event is not only free to attend, but there will also be a ‘summer barbeque’ promotion, with R$6 longneck bottles of beer, one free longneck beer with any burger or rib platter and special white wine by-the-glass promotions from Fine Wines.
