What’s On Tonight

Rock in Rio opens its final weekend tonight at the Cidade do Rock, the purpose-built festival city inside the Parque Olímpico in Barra da Tijuca. Gates open in the early afternoon, and the biggest sets come after dark.

Tonight is the first day in the festival’s history built around K-pop. Stray Kids close the Palco Mundo, the main stage, while HWASA and NEXZ play their first-ever shows in Brazil.

Fans may bring light sticks for the first time, a novelty made for this K-pop day. Official and generic models are allowed, up to 24 centimetres long and 400 grams, battery-powered and plastic.

Before the headliner, Alok presents Keep Art Human on the main stage. It is an audiovisual show with 45 Brazilian dancers and 1,500 synchronised drones.

The second stage, Palco Sunset, carries Jamiroquai and PJ Morton. Brazilian pairings fill the rest of its bill, including Os Garotin with Duquesa and Jota.Pê with Luedji Luna and Zaynara.

The Espaço Favela stage hosts MC Cabelinho with TZ da Coronel, plus Puterrier, MC Carol and Caio Luccas. The New Dance Order electronic stage closes the night with Neelix and Vegas playing back to back.

Tickets are sold only through Ticketmaster Brasil. The gramado, the open lawn in front of the stages, costs R$870 (about US$170) at full price and R$435 (about US$85) at the legal half-price rate known as meia-entrada.

The Comfort Zone, a private area beside the main stage with its own bars and bathrooms, is sold out for today. Itaú account holders get 15 per cent off and can pay in up to eight interest-free instalments.

If you would rather stay central, Lapa keeps its own Friday. Carioca da Gema, the small samba house on Avenida Mem de Sá, lists Leonardo Bessa tonight on its own events page and on Zig, its ticketing platform.

The Rest of the Week

The festival runs tomorrow and Sunday at the same site. Saturday pairs Maroon 5 with Demi Lovato on the main stage, with J Balvin and Mumford & Sons also on the bill.

Twenty One Pilots close the edition on Sunday. That is the seventh and last night of Rock in Rio 2026.

Back in Lapa, Carioca da Gema brings JP Silva on Saturday, with doors at 20:30 and the show at 22:00 by the house’s weekly timetable. Weekend entry is R$35 (about US$7).

Monday 14 September brings the next free street roda at Pedra do Sal, in the port district. Riotur, the city’s tourism body, lists it as a Monday tradition.

What We Could Not Confirm

The Friday timetable at Carioca da Gema still disagrees with itself. The venue’s standing note says doors 18:30 and main show 21:30, while tonight’s ticket page says doors 19:30 and show 20:30.

The safest move is to confirm by WhatsApp on (21) 98556-0834 before you set out. Tables are held for reservations only until 21:00 in either version.

Rio Scenarium, the big antiques-filled samba house on Rua do Lavradio, confirms it is open tonight from 19:00 to 02:00. Its programme page did not load for us today, so we name no act and no price.

Minute-by-minute stage times for the festival were not in the sources we could open. The running order of the stages above is confirmed; the clock times are not.

Where to Go

Carioca da Gema — Lapa

A two-storey samba house at the Lapa end of the Centro, open since 2000. The room is small, the tables sit close to the stage and the crowd sings.

  • TonightLeonardo Bessa. Ticket page says doors 19:30, show 20:30; the weekly timetable says 18:30 and 21:30.
  • EntryR$35 (about US$7), the published Friday and Saturday rate.
  • TablesStanding listed at R$30 on the ticket page, with tables for two at R$70 and for four at R$140. Reservations held until 21:00.
  • TicketsThrough Zig, linked from the venue’s own event listing.
  • The actA composer from the Salgueiro samba school and current lead singer of Renascer de Jacarepaguá, working through roots samba, pagode and carnival songs.
  • AddressAvenida Mem de Sá 79, Centro. Metro Cinelândia, then a short walk.

Money and How Paying Works

Dollar figures here use a rate of R$5.1149 to one US dollar. That is the Banco Central PTAX closing rate for Thursday 10 September, the most recent published figure.

Festival tickets carry fixed tiers on Ticketmaster Brasil. Half-price entry, called meia-entrada, applies by law to students, over-60s and other protected categories.

At the samba houses, food and drink are charged separately from entry. A service charge, called serviço, is usually added at about 10 per cent, and it is optional under Brazilian law.

Getting Home Safe

Both of tonight’s plans end after MetrôRio closes at midnight. From Barra da Tijuca that means the official festival transport, a rideshare or a taxi.

The Cidade do Rock sits far west of the centre. Arrange your return before the headline set ends, when tens of thousands of people request cars at once.

From Lapa, book your car from inside the venue and wait on the busy main strip. The side streets around Mem de Sá stay quiet late, so keep your phone out of sight there.
