Rio de Janeiro: Eduardo Pazuello gains strength in mayoral race

By · May 22, 2023 · 2 min read

By Rodrigo Viga

The name of former health minister and current federal congressman Eduardo Pazuello (PL) is gaining strength in the race for mayor of Rio de Janeiro in 2024.

Pazuello and Senator Carlos Portinho (PL) have been waiting for a position from Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL), son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, on a possible candidacy.

Last week, it was confirmed that Flavio would not run to continue working on the political articulation of the opposition.

According to Jovem Pan sources, the Rio de Janeiro PL has not yet decided if it will have its candidacy or a name to lead the slate.

The right-wing dreams of a slate formed by Pazuello as vice-president and having as head and mayoral candidate the state Health Secretary Dr. Luizinho (PP).

The two have an excellent relationship and had contact when Pazuello was ahead of the Ministry of Health.

To Jovem Pan, Pazuello said he would wait for the PL’s direction and is at the party’s disposal to follow the determined path.
