Police destroy more than thirty drug laboratories and factories in Bolivia, LatAm’s new drug trafficking hub

Considered the biggest operation in the history of the fight against drugs, the Police discovered and destroyed seven drug laboratories and 27 cocaine base paste factories, informed this Saturday the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo.

According to the minister, this destruction affects drug trafficking by about 2 million dollars.

“After 14 hours of travel together with personnel of the Special Force against Drug Trafficking (Felcn), we have carried out the largest operation in the fight against drug trafficking in the history of Bolivia, destroying laboratories and drug factories,” he told reporters.

According to the Ministry of Government, report released this day, the operations identified and dismantled seven cocaine laboratories in the municipality of Villa Tunari in the Chapare province in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba (center), Bolivia’s coca-growing region.

At the site, anti-narcotics agents seized precursor chemicals, communication equipment, and other items.

The minister informed that the results of the operations obtained in the fight against drug trafficking are due to the execution of the operation plans called “Perseo and Colmena”, developed this year by the Felcn and the Umopar of the Police.

Mexico’s dominance in the regional drug trade owes much to its position alongside the world’s largest drug consumer and its ability to produce drugs like heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine.

Bolivia, however, sits alongside Brazil, the second biggest consumer of illegal drugs in the world.

Bolivia also borders the world’s principal producer of cocaine, Peru, and South America’s primary producer of marijuana, Paraguay.
