The Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) reports that new car sales in Mexico for January 2025 grew, hitting the highest volume since 2017 with 119,811 units sold.

This January’s sales figure is 5.9% higher than the same month in 2024, reflecting an increase of 6,714 vehicles sold. Nissan holds the lead with a 16.9% market share, followed by General Motors at 13.1%, Volkswagen at 12.4%, Toyota at 9.2%, and KIA at 7.2%.

Other notable performers include Mazda at 6.5%, Stellantis at 5.9%, Ford at 3.5%, MG at 3.3%, and Hyundai also at 3.3%. These companies make up the top ten in sales volume.

Despite this, Toyota, Mazda, Volkswagen, and Great Wall Motors saw the most significant gains in sales at the start of 2025.

The January sales exceeded the Asociación Mexicana de Distribuidores de Automotores (AMDA) estimate of 117,332 units by 2.1%. While the growth rate remains in single digits compared to 2024, the automotive market shows no signs of slowing down.

Industry forecasts suggest that 2025 sales will surpass 1.5 million light vehicles, with expectations that new Chinese brands like BYD, Geely, SEV, GAC, and SAAG will soon join the fray.
