Mexico’s main stock index, the S&P/BMV IPC, closed at 57,398 after a slow 24 hours rocked by global trade uncertainty and steady local fundamentals.

The US’s plan for new tariffs on major economies rattled investors worldwide, pushing Asian and European markets lower and leaving Mexico’s bourse moving sideways.

The story within the numbers is caution. Key Mexican stocks held their ground, with Cemex jumping 2.49% on solid earnings and Alfa up 2.46% as investors moved into value stocks. Genomma Lab followed, rising 2.21% after positive company guidance.

Meanwhile, insurers and lenders led the losers: Qualitas fell 3.39%, Banco del Bajio dropped 2.93%, and Gentera slipped 2.51%. More stocks declined than advanced, signaling defensive trading.
