Mexico confirms the return of physical visa requirements for Brazilians

The Mexican government published in its Official Gazette on Wednesday, August 3, the return of the requirement for a physical visa for Brazilians to enter the country.

According to consular sources, the measure aims to reduce the flow of Brazilian citizens who arrive in the country seeking to cross the border with the USA illegally.

Since November, an agreement between the Brazilian and Mexican governments allowed Brazilian tourists to apply for a visa through the Internet to visit Mexico, but since last week, the service has been unavailable.

On Twitter, some visa applicants complained about the unavailability of the scheduling service for physical visas.

Mexico’s Interior Ministry decided to eliminate the tourist visa facilitation in light of the difficulty in stemming the flow of illegal immigrants to the US.

“Since there are no substantive advances in joint actions with the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil that enable the proper use of the migration facilitation measure and the guarantee of safe, orderly, and regular migration flows, the general objective of the regulation is that the Mexican government decided to eliminate the facilitation of obtaining electronic visas for Brazilians who intend to enter the national territory by air, as visitors without authorization to perform remunerated activities,” said the Ministry in a statement.
