Luis Arce announces “megaworks” to celebrate the Bicentennial in Bolivia

President Luis Arce inaugurated the “National Bicentennial Strategic Plan”, which contemplates, as he said, the implementation of “works of great economic impact” for the country, when there are still 36 months to go before the celebration of the 200 years of Bolivian Independence.

Arce did not detail the investment for this national plan, but he was optimistic about executing, in the remainder of his administration, what he called “The Bolivia we dream of by 2025.”

“The festivities will be held with emphasis on the 2025 administration, convening representatives of brother countries, world-renowned personalities and organizing a set of academic, cultural and sports activities at the international level,” said the president.

From October and every first Monday of the month, massive and civic events will be held in each capital and intermediate cities of the country, according to the presidential delegate of the National Bicentennial Council, Martín Maturano.

Bolivia is heading to celebrate its Bicentennial amid criticism from the opposition.

In this regard, the head of the bench of the opposition group Creemos (We Believe), Centa Rek, told Voz de América (Voice of America) that this announcement responds to an “electoral campaign of the Movement Towards Socialism,” heading for the general elections that will be held in that same year, 2025.

“Everything is done in Bolivia now with a view to the elections, no management is being carried out about the needs we are experiencing. In addition, these pharaonic works are typical of all the promises of the Movement Towards Socialism, Evo Morales made them at the time and they are generally white elephants,” the senator said.

Highways, industrial and steel plants, technology, health and education centers, as well as squares, parks and museums are the works that the central government is contemplating for the Bicentennial and most would be carried out in 2024.

On the other hand, in recent months, some struggles have been revealed within the Movement Toward Socialism that respond, according to analysts, to the three lines that are handled within this party led by the current president Luis Arce, the Vice President David Choquehuanca and former President Evo Morales. However, representatives of the ruling party deny any division and assure that President Arce’s management is supported.
