LGBT group denounces Chile Navy for calling homosexuality “depraved tyranny and immorality”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh) today (3) denounced the Naval Academy for disseminating “hateful content that violates the dignity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) people.”

The publication in which the statements were released is titled “The global sexual revolution. The Destruction of Freedom in the Name of Freedom,” whose author is Admiral and former Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Miguel Vergara Villalobos.

In the document, he states that the great achievement of [disrupting] reproductive rights was achieved at the 1994 UN Conference on Population in Cairo, and just one year later, the Beijing Conference was already controlled by radical feminists.

The document concludes that these events insult human dignity, aim to destroy the family, degrade motherhood, promote depraved sexual attitudes, and promote homosexuality, lesbianism, and sexual promiscuity.

The text is not only directed against feminism and the LGBT+ community, but also defends reparative therapies for homosexuality, which is why, according to Movilh spokesman Oscar Rementería, the movement will demand that the Navy retract the publication, punish those responsible and offer a public apology.

According to Rementería, “this is not the first time that the Chilean Navy has attacked the dignity of people with sexual diversity and, in particular, the anti-discrimination law, which is particularly harsh against public officials, and the military is a public official.”

Revista Marina, which printed the article, pointed out that its website states that “the articles reflected the thoughts of their authors and did not compromise the magazine or the Chilean Navy in any way.”

Movilh will go to the Comptroller’s office at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 3, to file a complaint. Minutes later, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Defense to determine the responsibilities of the command and analyze the legal actions to be taken.
