A Nairobi electronic music collective is taking its New Year’s Eve party to the Kenyan coast. Tickets for Komplex NYE in Watamu are on sale now.

Komplex NYE, a New Year’s Eve party by the Nairobi collective Komplex KE, runs in Watamu from Thursday, 31 December 2026. The listing on Quicket, the ticket platform, gives an end time of 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, 2 January 2027.

For US visitors, midnight in Kenya falls at 4:00 p.m. Eastern on 31 December, and the party starts at 8:00 a.m. Eastern. Tickets still available on 16 October start at KES 5,000 (about US$39), and every guest must be 21 or older.

What Komplex NYE Is and Who Runs It

Komplex KE describes itself as a movement built on sound, space and subculture. Its website says it began in Nairobi and is rooted in late nights and underground music.

The collective says it has staged parties in airplane hangars and railway museums, and has even shut down city streets. In 2024 it partnered with the global music imprint Mixmag to highlight Kenya’s electronic music scene.

The Quicket listing says the party follows the sun to Watamu this year. It calls the event a new destination and a new experience for the same community.

Quicket’s ticket terms refer to Double X Limited, which appears to be the organiser’s company. The organiser name on the listing is Komplex KE, and its website is komplex.co.ke.

The listing promises some of electronic music’s most exciting artists, collectives and brands for a two day celebration by the Indian Ocean. It names no performers yet and says more details are landing very soon.

Dates, Times and the US Clock

Quicket lists the event from 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, 31 December, until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, 2 January 2027. That is a window of 34 hours, which the organiser bills as a two day celebration.

Kenya keeps East Africa Time all year, three hours ahead of GMT. After US clocks fall back on Sunday, 1 November, Kenya is eight hours ahead of New York.

  • Start: 4:00 p.m. Kenya time on Thursday, 31 December, which is 8:00 a.m. US Eastern.
  • Midnight into 1 January: 4:00 p.m. US Eastern on Thursday, 31 December.
  • Listed end: 2:00 a.m. Kenya time on Saturday, 2 January 2027, which is 6:00 p.m. US Eastern on Friday, 1 January 2027.

The listing does not say whether each day has its own opening time. The daily running order and stage times are not yet published.

Tickets and Prices

Quicket is the official seller named on the organiser’s listing, and it sells in Kenyan shillings. Prices are converted at KES 129.73 per US$1, the open.er-api.com rate of 15 October 2026.

  • KES 3,600 (about US$28): sold out on 16 October.
  • KES 5,000 (about US$39): on sale, opened on 13 October, Kenya time.
  • KES 5,600 (about US$43): sold out.
  • KES 7,200 (about US$55): on sale, listed as two separate tiers.
  • KES 12,200 (about US$94): on sale.
  • KES 60,000 (about US$462): on sale.
  • KES 100,000 (about US$771): on sale.

Quicket does not explain what each tier includes in the public listing. The two highest prices may be hospitality or accommodation packages, but the organiser has not said so.

The first tiers went on sale on 1 September 2026, Kenya time, and two of the lower tiers have since sold out. If you want the lowest remaining price, buy early.

Tickets are strictly non-transferable, and the name on the ticket must match a valid government ID shown at the gate. Lost, altered or damaged tickets and wristbands may be refused without a refund.

The terms say no refunds under any circumstances and that all sales are final. They also say the organisers may change, postpone, move or cancel the event for safety, weather, legal or other reasons.

The Venue and Getting to Watamu

The listing gives the venue as the Sun Palm Beach Hotel & Resort Watamu, off Tourist Cross on Jacaranda Road. It places the town in Kilifi County, on the Indian Ocean coast north of Mombasa.

Watamu lies south of Malindi and north of Kilifi town. Beneath the Baobabs, another New Year festival, plays near Kilifi from Wednesday, 30 December.

The State Department advises against hailing taxis on the side of the road. It adds that ride-share apps are common in major cities.

It also says to avoid driving between cities at night because of poor roads, poor street lighting and banditry. The Komplex listing ends at 2:00 a.m., so arrange your ride or a bed nearby before you buy.

The department notes that the Nairobi to Mombasa highway has two lanes and risky passing. It also mentions the Standard Gauge Railway between Nairobi and Mombasa, which US government staff may ride in first class.

This article has not verified flight, bus or shuttle schedules for the last leg to Watamu. Check carriers and your hotel before you book anything non-refundable.

Tips for US and Foreign Visitors

US citizens need an electronic travel authorisation before entering Kenya, applied for at etakenya.go.ke. The official portal says normal processing starts at US$30 and usually takes about 72 hours.

Expedited processing costs an extra US$100 and is handled immediately, the portal adds. The State Department says passports must be valid for six months beyond arrival.

The department rates Kenya at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, in an advisory issued on 28 July 2026. Its Do Not Travel list includes Lamu County, Kilifi County north of highway C103 and coastal areas north of Malindi.

The advisory gives kidnapping and terrorism as the reasons for those warnings. It does not name Watamu, which lies south of Malindi, but check its map before any trip north.

The advisory says terrorists have targeted hotels and resorts, and it lists popular hotels, clubs and restaurants as possible targets. It also says US citizens have reported sexual assaults at safari lodges, on beaches and around nightlife areas.

It warns solo travellers to be especially careful and says not to physically resist a robbery. It adds that penalties for illegal drugs are severe, and the Komplex terms also ban illegal drugs and outside food and drink.

The advisory says appropriate medical treatment is typically available only in or near Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, and Watamu is not named. Check that your travel insurance covers medical evacuation before you fly.

Kenya’s eCitizen insurance site says an inbound travel health insurance product is tied to the eTA for non-African travellers. The Rio Times insurance guide explains how it works.

Kenya’s health ministry confirmed an imported Ebola case in October 2026, and a second case in the same family followed. Check the CDC travel notices and the latest Rio Times report before you fly.

What It Means for You

For a US traveller already planning a Kenyan beach holiday, this is a ticketed New Year’s Eve with no line-up yet. The cheapest remaining entry costs about US$39, and hotel and flight costs come on top.

Expats in Nairobi face a trip to the coast at the busiest travel time of the year. Bring a passport or other government ID, because the ticket name must match it at the gate.

What Is Not Known

The organiser has not named any artists, and the public listing gives no daily running order. It also does not say what each of the eight ticket tiers includes.

The listing does not say whether tickets cover one day or both, or whether the hotel offers rooms to ticket holders. The organiser’s own website did not mention the Watamu event on 16 October, so the Quicket listing is the only primary page.

This article could not confirm from a primary health source whether any Ebola travel or gathering limits apply on the coast. The CDC travel notices page could not be opened for this check, so verify it before you book.

What Comes Next

The listing promises more details very soon, but it gives no date for the line-up announcement. The party starts at 4:00 p.m. Kenya time on Thursday, 31 December.

Check the Quicket page for any change of venue, date or line-up. Ticket holders should also watch their booking email.

Connected Coverage

Watamu has no Rio Times city page, so start with the Nairobi city guide for arrival, costs and transport. The nearest coast listings are in Mombasa Events 12 to 31 October 2026.

Another New Year option is Beneath the Baobabs Festival in Kilifi, which starts on 30 December. For safety and culture context, read Is Kenya Safe in 2026 and Kenya Culture, the Key Figures to Know in 2026.
