Free Film Screenings at Lunchtime Series Begins June 14th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Beginning Tuesday, June 14th, Caixa Cultural in Centro will host the twelveth edition of the film series, Mostra Curta no Almoço (Short Film Screenings During Lunch). Continuing through Friday, July 1st the series will feature twenty-two short length fiction, documentary, and experimental films which were all recently produced in Rio de Janeiro.

The film screenings will be free admission and will take place on Tuesdays through Fridays. Each day there will be three sessions at 12PM, 12:45 PM and 1:30 PM.

“Nowadays it is increasingly common for people to express themselves through short films, more than 1,000 titles are made annually in Brazil,” Guilherme Whitaker one the organizers of the series said in a released statement. “The Mostra Curta no Almoço series is a simple picture of this scenario. By displaying varied short films to a public, which often is not in the habit of watching them in theaters, it helps in the formation of a better viewing audience for the format.”

Many of Mostra Curta no Almoço’s films were also featured in festivals including Festival do Rio, Curta Cinema, and Mostra do Filme Livre.

Yasmin Thayná’s 2015 film “Kbela” will open the Mostra Curta no Almoço series this year. Additional films that will screen include Piu Gomes’ 2015 documentary “Chacal Palavra Filme”, which won the Best Short Award by Popular Jury in Montpelier Festival in France; Joel Pizzini’s 2014 experimental film “Mar de Fogo”, which also was screened in the Berlinale 2014 (Berlin, Germany film festival) and Festival do Rio 2015; Eduardo Souza Lima’s 2015 documentary “Três no Tri”; and Allan Ribeiro’s 2014 film “O Clube.”

The Mostra Curta no Almoço series will run concurrently with the Cinema Político: O poder da imagem (Political Cinema: The Image of Power) film screening series which Caixa Cultural is hosting on June 14th through July 3rd.
