The first edition of Rock in Rio after the pandemic with high caliber lineup

The Rock in Rio, one of the largest music festivals in the world, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro starting Friday, September 2, expects more than 700,000 spectators to attend performances by bands such as Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, and Greenday.

There will also be room for pop greats such as Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Demi Lovato, and Camila Cabello, which organizers call “the biggest Rock in Rio ever,” according to a press release.

The international lineup includes Post Malone, Marshmello, Jason Derulo, Maneskin, The Offspring, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rita Ora.

This is the festival’s first edition after the COVID-19 pandemic – it was supposed to have taken place in September 2021 – and the concerts will take place, as usual, at the Barra da Tijuca Olympic Park, where the 2016 Olympic Games were held.

The festival will take place on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11, and more than 100,000 visitors are expected to be spread across dozens of stages each day, with the gigantic Mundo stage, 104 meters long and 30 meters deep, where the headliners will perform, dominating the landscape.

The adjacent Sunset stage will feature big names in Brazilian music, such as Gilberto Gil, Criolo, Gloria Groove, Emicida, Luísa Sonza, and Racionais; the Favela Space is reserved for talent from Rio’s outskirts; the New Dance Order stage is for dance music and the Supernova stage for experimental music.

In addition to the concerts, the leisure offer is vast and comparable to a gigantic amusement park, with roller coasters and cable cars, a gameplay arena for video game fans or the Uirapuru show, a musical inspired by legends of the Amazon, with 40 dancers and an orchestra of 30 musicians.

One of the peculiarities of this festival’s edition is that it coincides with an election campaign for the first time in its 37-year history.
