Covid-19: In Brazil, there are 570 confirmed cases of Delta coronavirus variant

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has 570 confirmed cases of people infected with variant delta of the new coronavirus. The Ministry of Health calculated the data through Tuesday (10). The number is almost double the tally released last week, showing the rapid progress of the strain in the country.

Rio de Janeiro remains the state with the most cases of the new strain of coronavirus. Another 12 states and the Federal District are on the list with identified and reported cases. Among those registered infected, there were 36 deaths throughout the country, 19 of them in Paraná.

So far, cases have been identified in the following units of the Federation: Alagoas (1), Espírito Santo (7), Ceará (4), Distrito Federal (75), Goiás (10), Maranhão (7 records, six of which were on the ship that was in the state, and one suitcase of a traveler), Minas Gerais (4), Pará (3), Paraná (54), Pernambuco (5), Rio de Janeiro (206), Rio Grande do Sul (64), Santa Catarina (34), and São Paulo (96). The survey is conducted through the communications of the Secretariats of State.

“The ministry clarifies that the cases and their respective contacts will be monitored by the epidemiological surveillance teams and the Center for Strategic Information in Surveillance and Health (CIEVS), as provided by the epidemiological guide of COVID-19,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Health Ministry says it will assist states and communities with genetic sequencing, immediate notification, tracking, and isolation of cases and contacts.

The federal agency also stresses that vaccination is essential to reduce the pandemic nature of Covid-19. The health agency warns people to wear masks and respirators to prevent the spread of the virus.

MPF TO IMPOSE CONTROL MEASURES ON ANVISA

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s office (MPF) has filed a class action suit to force the National Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) to comply with quarantine regulations for people who have traveled through South Africa, India, and the United Kingdom. The goal of the measure is to prevent the spread of variant Delta.

The MPF points out that sharing the list of travelers with airlines, “with a due warning regarding the confidentiality of the data,” can prevent cases such as the first Delta variant infection recorded in Brazil.

The person from India landed at Guarulhos airport in São Paulo and agreed to comply with the quarantine at the landing site. However, the traveler continued on a domestic flight to Rio de Janeiro.

The prosecutor’s office reports that it held emergency meetings with Anvisa in June, “during which the agency itself proposed sharing the list of passengers to be isolated with the airlines.”
