China Expands Its Nuclear Arsenal Amid Growing Geopolitical Tensions

China’s nuclear arsenal has been experiencing a significant and consistent expansion.

According to the latest findings from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), China’s nuclear warhead count rose from 350 in early 2022 to 410 by January 2023.

This growth is part of a broader strategy that may see China possessing a number of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) on par with the United States or Russia by the end of this decade.

Moreover, the Pentagon has projected even more dramatic growth in China’s nuclear capabilities, suggesting that by 2035, China could amass up to 1,500 nuclear warheads.

This projection is in line with the continued development and testing of ballistic missiles by China’s rocket forces.

Around 135 ballistic missile tests were conducted in 2021 alone for testing and training purposes.
