Brazil to authorize 5G activation in Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa, and Porto Alegre

Just three weeks after the Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions to Interference Problems (Gaispi) authorized the 5G standalone switch-on in Brasília (Federal District), three other capitals expect to have the same luck this Wednesday, July 27, while five others are enlisted and advancing in their infrastructure installation processes.

Gaisipi’s work ensures that the spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band is cleared when the 5G standalone networks are switched on, as established in the auction commitments held nine months ago.

Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), João Pessoa (Paraíba), and Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul) are the three cities whose switch-on would be approved and which would enable Claro, TIM, and VIVO to connect their 5G networks, starting on Friday, July 29.

As Telesíntese reported, it was an extraordinary meeting called by Moisés Moreira, president of Gaispi and advisor to Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).

The media also stated that the operators plan to move forward with installing the necessary equipment in Curitiba (Paraná), Salvador (Bahia), Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro), and Goiânia (Goiás) and that they will call a new meeting with Gaispi to request the approval of the switch-on there.

He even warns that São Paulo (São Paulo) was one of the cities in which the Entidade Administradora de Franjas (EAF) worked on the installation of filters and that, although the intention was to be completed in July, the “number of professional stations in the city delayed the work”.
