The Colombian president apologizes to Haiti for the murder of Jovenel Moïse

Colombian President Gustavo Petro apologized for the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse by Colombian mercenaries in July 2021.

“Today I apologized to Haiti for the assassination of his president committed by Colombian mercenaries,” he said through his Twitter account.

On July 7, 2021, a group of armed men arrived at the residence of the then president of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, where they murdered him and badly injured his wife.

The crime was committed mostly by Colombian mercenaries who were later arrested by the authorities of the Caribbean island.

The relatives of the ex-military members of the previous Government of Colombia requested the immediate release of the detainees because, according to them, there is no evidence that they participated in the assassination.
