Brazil’s fertilizer imports rise 27.4% through March -Cargonave

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Brazil has increased its fertilizer imports in the first three months of the year, according to data released today (6), as Western sanctions on critical suppliers such as Russia are likely to halt this flow from April.

Fertilizers are essential to maintain yields of corn, soybeans, rice, and wheat. Growers in Brazil and elsewhere are struggling to adjust as prices soar due to trade disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Brazilian fertilizer imports rose 27.4% in the year to March, according to Cargonave.

Imports totaled 10.43 million tons, up from 8.19 million . . .
