“The invitation to the ceremony was forwarded to the Brazilian Embassy in London on Saturday evening (10th). After consultation on Sunday morning (11), the President of the Republic instructed Itamaraty to respond positively to the invitation,” Itamaraty said.

From London, Bolsonaro will travel to New York, where he will attend the United Nations (UN) General Assembly opening on Sept. 20.

Bolsonaro had said he was considering attending the funeral on the day of the Queen’s death.

On Twitter, the President wrote on the day of the Queen’s death that she was an “example of leadership” and would continue to inspire Brazil and the entire world.

“It is with great sadness and emotion that Brazil notes the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an extraordinary and unique woman whose example of leadership, humility, and love of country will inspire us and the whole world until the end of time,” he wrote.

The government also ordered three days of mourning.

“As a sign of regret for the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, an official state mourning is declared throughout the country for three days, counting from the date of publication of this decree,” reads the text published in a special edition of the Official Journal of the Union (DOU).
