The Gross Value of Production (GVP) should add up to R$1.2 trillion (US$236 billion) in 2022, 0.3% more than last year, according to a new estimate released on Monday, August 15, by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. The number is in line with what has been projected by the Department in recent months.

For the 17 agricultural products that comprise the survey, the ministry foresees a GVP of R$853.2 billion, an increase of 3% compared to 2021. The group is led by soybeans, with VBP calculated at R$350.6 billion, 10.8% less than last year, basically because of the crop failure in the South region and Mato Grosso do Sul state.

The oilseed is followed by corn, whose GVP should grow 16.6%, to R$157.8 billion, thanks to the harvest recovery after the substantial fall in 2021 caused by the delay in planting the small harvest and climatic problems.

Next come sugarcane (R$103.5 billion, up 10.2%), coffee (R$62.2 billion, up 35.8%), wheat (R$18.8 billion, up 39.8%), and tomatoes (R$16.2 billion, up 30%).

In the group formed by the five main livestock products, the ministry foresees a GVP of R$367.1 billion, 5.5% less than in 2021. Cattle leads the group, with R$152.5 billion, a drop of 5.7% compared to last year because of the retracted domestic demand due to the retraction of the purchasing power of consumers.

For chicken, a reduction of 7.9% to R$108.8 billion is projected, for milk an increase of 0.8% to R$55.4 billion, for pork, a decrease of 10.8% to R$30.6 billion, for milk an increase of 0.8% to R$55.4 billion, and eggs an increase of 2.8% to R$19.8 billion.
