Google has invested about US$300 million in artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic.
The deal gives Google a 10% stake in the company.
The company confirmed the investment but gave no further details.
The deal involves the startup using the infrastructure of Google’s business division dedicated to cloud computing.
The big tech company is the latest company to invest in the race for artificial intelligence and sharpen the dispute with Microsoft.
Three years ago, billionaire Bill Gates’ company invested about US$1 billion in OpenAI.
With this, it built a series of systems, culminating in the launch late last year of ChatGPT, a chatbot that creates texts from artificial intelligence.
OpenAI’s rival Anthropic has developed an intelligent chatbot called Claude, rivaling ChatGPT, although it has not yet been publicly released.
The startup raised more than US$700 million before Google’s investment.
In an early February statement, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, explained that “artificial intelligence had evolved to become a major driver of technological change, creating opportunities for growth and service improvement across industries.”
