Audiovisual Sports Exhibition Opens in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Exploring 120 years of sports through film and archival footage, the “Memórias do Esporte” (Memory of Sport) audiovisual exhibition will be open to the public July 28th through September 25th in the Centro Cultural Correios RJ. The opening ceremony will take place today, on Wednesday, July 27th at 7PM.

For the exhibition, brothers, J. C. Soares and J. J. Soares curated and edited thirty videos. The images will be played on 42″ monitors placed throughout a 1,000 m2 floor of the Centro Cultural Correios RJ.

“[…] Sports captured through film offered something no other theme could : the humanization of the image,” said the curators in a released statement. “Thus, throughout history, many filmmakers from around the world have cast their gaze on sports.”

The videos include rare and unpublished documentation of sporting events around the world with the oldest film in the exhibition dating back to 1896. The film, which is of a game of boules in Lyon, France, was one of the earliest made by brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumière, the pioneers of filmmaking.

In addition to the archival and rare footage, the ongoing Olympic Games broadcast on the channels of Sportv will be live-streamed in a private room in Centro Cultural Correios RJ.
