Value Over Volume: Paraguay’s Beef Strategy Pays Off in 2025

Paraguay just finished the third quarter with a quiet surge that matters beyond its borders. From January to September 2025, the country exported 276,764 metric tons of beef—up 10.5% from a year earlier—while earnings jumped 31.7% to US$1.604 billion.

In plain terms: Paraguay sold more beef, and it sold it for better money. The headline is only half the story. The broader meat complex—beef plus offal and other animal products—shipped slightly less by volume (527,212 tons, down 6%) but brought in more cash (US$2.009 billion, up 19%).

That tells you processors are squeezing more value out of each animal, turning by-products into export revenue instead of waste. It also signals firmer average prices and smarter product mix.

Who is buying? Forty-plus markets took Paraguayan beef this year, with Chile as the anchor at roughly 30% of shipments: 85,354 tons worth about US$514 million in the first nine months.

Taiwan, Israel, and the United States are important secondary buyers, giving Paraguay a spread of customers that reduces the risk of any single market wobble.

Why this is happening—and why it matters: Paraguay’s packers have become efficient and reliable on sanitary rules, even without a coastline. River logistics and consistent plant standards let them compete with bigger neighbors.

For global consumers, it adds a steady source of protein at a time when prices and supply can whipsaw with droughts, currency swings, or policy shifts in larger exporters.

For Paraguay’s economy, stronger unit values mean more dollars flowing to ranchers, truckers, and river ports—not just more carcasses on ships.

The takeaway is simple without being simplistic: Paraguay’s beef engine is running hotter than last year, powered by better prices, a fuller use of each animal, and a diversified map of buyers. The volumes tell one story; the value—and the strategy behind it—tell the more important one.
