Uruguay opens cruise season with expectation of 160 arrivals
Uruguay inaugurated the 2022-2023 cruise season in Montevideo on Thursday with the expectation of reaching a record 160 arrivals of ships of this type to the country’s coast.
The 160 cruise ships are expected to dock throughout the southern summer in the Uruguayan capital and the Punta del Este resort (140 kilometers to the east).
This Thursday, the day chosen for the launch of the season despite the fact that the arrivals began days ago, four ships docked at the Montevidean terminal, the largest of them the MSC Seaview, 300 meters long and with 4,000 passengers on board.

“There are around 8,000 tourists who will go down to the city. This implies the recovery of cruise tourism after the pandemic (of the new coronavirus), “said the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera.
“This is the second time this week that this number of cruise ships have arrived in the country,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the president of the National Ports Administration, Juan Curbelo, commented that “cruiseism is a relevant activity” and the improvement of its operation “makes the country more attractive.”
“It is hoped that in the coming years the flow of cruise ships arriving at the port of Montevideo can be increased,” he stressed.
