Unemployment fell in 22 of the 27 Brazilian states in the second quarter of this year, according to a report published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The states with the lowest unemployment rates were Santa Catarina, in the southern region, with 3.9%, and Mato Grosso, in the Amazon region, which had unemployment of 4.4%.

IBGE’s National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) recently reported that unemployment at the national level was 9.3% in the second quarter, with a drop of 1.8% compared to the previous quarter.

In the report published this Friday, a detail of the general scenario was presented, where the state of São Paulo, the first national economy, appears with an unemployment rate of 9.2%.

On the other hand, Rio de Janeiro, the second national economy, showed an unemployment rate of 12.6% in the second quarter of the year.

On the other hand, the lack of work at the national level affects women more than men, since female unemployment was 11.6 %, while male unemployment was 7.5 %.

The study released today indicated that unemployment in the white population was 7.3 % in the second quarter, while for the black people, it was 11.3 %.
