Ukraine’s Drone Attack Sends Strong Message on Eve of First Post-Oval Office Trump Meeting

Russian defense officials reported Ukraine conducted its largest drone attack of the war Tuesday morning. Ukrainian forces deployed 337 drones across multiple Russian regions in a coordinated assault.

The massive strike killed two people in Moscow and injured thirteen others. Russian air defenses intercepted most drones but failed to prevent casualties. A 38-year-old security guard died instantly when debris struck an industrial complex in Domodedovo.

Doctors attempted to resuscitate a 50-year-old victim four times before he succumbed to injuries. Families will receive compensation of one million rubles, approximately $10,500.

The attack targeted widespread areas across European Russia. Officials claimed they shot down 126 drones over Kursk, 91 over Moscow and surrounding regions, 38 over Briansk, and others elsewhere.

The previous largest attack occurred last November when Russia reported intercepting 158 drones. Ukrainian forces launched drones in tactical groups of 6 to 12 to overwhelm Russian air defenses.

They deployed various long-range models including Rubaka, Lyuti, and PD-2 “The People’s Drone.” The weapons contained 7mm metal ball bearings to maximize damage potential.

Escalating Tensions and Military Movements in Southeast Moscow

Southeast Moscow suffered the heaviest impact, particularly Domodedovo and Ramenskoye districts. The attack damaged approximately twenty vehicles and destroyed several apartments. Local authorities evacuated residents from affected buildings as a precaution.

The timing proves significant. This assault occurred hours before a crucial diplomatic meeting between Ukrainian officials and key Trump administration figures. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz will meet Ukrainian representatives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This represents the first face-to-face contact since a tense White House encounter on February 28. Russia’s military claims significant progress in the Kursk region.

Chief of General Staff Valeri Gerasimov visited frontline troops Tuesday to praise their efforts. Russian sources claim they have recaptured approximately two-thirds of territory previously taken by Ukrainian forces.

The attack appears retaliatory. Russia recently intensified bombardment of Ukrainian territory following a European rearmament summit. A recent Russian missile and drone strike killed eleven Ukrainians, including five children.

Moscow’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova attempted to link the timing to the OSCE Secretary General’s Moscow visit, suggesting Ukraine deliberately times attacks to coincide with diplomatic events.
