My wife and I are traveling to Rio at the end of the month to visit our son who has been living in Rio the better part of the last three years. Before traveling to a new spot we always make a point of reading the local newspapers and some fiction and non fiction books centering on our destination to create a richer matrix than just reading a few guide books.

We were delighted to find The Rio Times. We particularly enjoyed the Travel and Classified Sections. The article on IIha Grande was a great find for us as it is one of our planned side trips.

As far as non fiction, may I recommend to your readers: Ruy Castro’s “Rio de Janeiro and Steven Berkoff’s ” A Prisoner In Rio. On the fiction side: Luiz Alfredo Garcia-Roza’s “The Silence of the Rain”, a police procedural set in Rio.
